NDO – Vietnam and member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed a Protocol on the electronic exchange of customs information on June 28 in a bid to effectively implement the 2015 Free Trade Agreement inked between Vietnam and EAEU.

Director of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Nguyen Van Can, and heads of customs bodies of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan signed the Protocol at the 132nd Session of the Customs Cooperation Council of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) held in Brussels from June 28-30.

Accordingly, customs agencies of EAEU countries and Vietnam will begin sharing information about a number of the transferred goods in October, 2018.

From October 2021, the two sides are set to begin sharing information regarding all goods transported between the EAEU countries and Vietnam pursuant to the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement.

Realisation of information exchange on goods transported from the EAEU countries to Vietnam and back is provided for under the Free Trade Agreement between the Union and Vietnam effective from October 5, 2016.

The electronic exchange of information will facilitate international trade procedures and allow the implementation of the Agreement’s opportunities in a more effective way.
