VCCI Chairman, Vu Tien Loc said that Vietnam and Iran have signed many agreements in such areas as agriculture, culture, education, banking, customs and aviation.
Vietnam posted a total import-export revenue of US$116.9 million with Iran in 2016, including US$86.8 million worth of export revenue and US$30.1 million worth of import revenue.
Loc noted that the two economies have their own advantages that can complement each other for mutual development, as Iran has potential in energy, petrochemicals and mining, while Vietnam has enormous potential in agriculture and aquatic products.
In addition to trade and investment cooperation, tourism is also a potential area for mutual co-operation as Vietnam has many beautiful sites to attract Iranian visitors, Loc added.
ICCIMA Chairman, Gholamhossein Shafei said that as the country with the world's largest reserves of oil, Iran can provide Vietnam with products such as petrochemicals, asphalt, polymer granules, base oils, building materials and minerals, adding that Iran exports a large quantity of asphalt and polymer products to Vietnam each year.
He said that Vietnam could be a bridge for Iranian goods to reach ASEAN countries, while Iran, located in a region of more than 400 million people, would be the gateway for Vietnamese goods to reach the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Viet INTACO JSC, Tran Van Tri said that cruise ship building and fishing are potential areas of co-operation between the two countries, besides co-operation in agriculture and petrochemicals, as Iran has abundant fisheries resources with high-value and nutrition such as sturgeon, salmon, herring and shrimp.
