Deputy PM urges facilitating consumption of domestically-made tra fish products

NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has said that dishes made from tra fish (pangasius) are very delicious and are certainly able to win the trust of consumers, but many of people in the North are not aware of these products.

On the afternoon of October 7, the deputy PM made a visit to the ongoing Vietnam Tra Fish and Aquaculture Fair organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in Hanoi.

Praising efforts by businesses participating in the fair, Deputy PM Dung said that companies have prepared carefully for the fair, and are also ready to expand the market for tra fish products in the northern region. The capital city’s residents also respond positively to tra fish and other processing aquacultural products.

He also said that the fair was an important event to promote images, product brands and consumption of tra fish products and other seafood in the domestic market in general and in the North in particular, towards expanding into regional and international markets.

According to Dung, the government is focusing on directing the restructuring of agricultural production, linking production with the market. Accordingly, the production must take the international market as a standard by which to improve quality, lower production costs, and pay special attention to the domestic market. People should enjoy the best products produced by domestic enterprises, he added.

The government official also affirmed that MARD is developing solutions to facilitate farming and processing of tra fish and seafood products at the highest quality. The Ministry of Industry and Trade should take the lead in finding market solutions and implementing measures to support enterprises in promoting and developing the domestic and international markets.

"It is necessary to keep up with traditional markets, develop new markets, and reorganise the domestic market, especially the retail market for tra fish and fishery products in particular, and agricultural products should reach the consumers," the deputy PM said.

The government will also require the Ministry of Science and Technology to have comprehensive solutions in order to support enterprises in terms of product standards and specifications, ensuring that quality Vietnamese products meeting the standards and the needs of international markets.

Deputy PM Dung also proposed enterprises to continue promoting the application of science and technology in production and processing, while studying to expand consumption market and promoting product promotion and the introduction of constructive activities.

Opened on October 6, the Hanoi fair is the first seafood fair being held in the capital city, aiming to promote the consumption of tra fish and other seafood products in the northern region and international markets, particularly China.

The two-day event will feature over 100 booths of 40 domestic and foreign enterprises.
