NDO – The export value of key forestry products was estimated at over US$4.3 billion in the first six months of 2018, including US$4.1 billion worth in the export revenue of wooden products, up 12.7% over the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD).

Key forestry products also posted a trade surplus of over US$3.2 billion in the six-month period, the highest figure among the agricultural export products.

The US, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea are the leading importers of Vietnamese wood and wooden products in the first half of this year, accounting for 78.2% ofVietnam’s total export revenue.

According to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry under the MARD, wood and the forestry processing industry has seen strong growth with the participation of approximately 3,500 firms who are mainly private and FDI enterprises.

Vietnamese wooden products have become more diverse and have been exported to more than 100 countries and territories across the world.

The forestry sector expects to achieve total forestry export revenue of US$9 billion and forest coverage of 41.65% by the end of this year.

The Director of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Nguyen Quoc Tri, said that the export of forestry products in the remaining months of this year is anticipated to face difficulties due to fluctuations in the world markets and the difficulties in the import of raw materials in the area.
