NDO—The 15th Vietnam Poetry Day opened at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on the morning of February 11 as an annual event to promote Vietnam’s poetry to domestic and international poetry lovers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, poet Huu Thinh, Chairman of Vietnam Writers’ Association, said that since it was first launched fourteen years ago, the Vietnam Poetry Day has been observed every year on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar in cities and provinces across the country, serving as a cultural venue for poets and poetry-lovers.

The event featured different spaces introducing outstanding Vietnamese poets in the 1930-1945 period, winners of the 2016 Poetry Awards, young poets and children’s poet clubs.

An outdoor photo exhibition reviewing the 60-year development of the Vietnam Writers’ Association was held at the event, highlighting the establishment and achievements of the association as well as its outstanding members.

Artist Le Thiet Cuong brought to the event a display of his 40 pottery works that illustrate the verses of 40 Vietnamese poets such as Van Cao, Hoang Trung Thong, Luu Quang Vu, Dao Trong Khanh and Thuan Huu.

Visitors to the event were also invited to participate in poetry recitals, performances of songs based on poems, spoken exchanges between poets and audiences and the “Path of the Poet,” which was held for the first time to introduce the portraits and works of major Vietnamese poets also included at the event.
