NDO – A wide variety of unique cultural activities will be held from April 19-23 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Dong Mo tourism area of Son Tay town in Hanoi to celebrate the Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day (April 19).

The programmes will draw participation of patriarchs, artisans and people from ethnic minority groups across the country including Muong (Hoa Binh), Thai (Nghe An), Kho Mu (Dien Bien), E De (Dak Lak), San Chay (Thai Nguyen), Dao (Hanoi), Ta Oi (Thua Thien – Hue), Khmer (Soc Trang), Lo Lo (Ha Giang), H’re (Quang Ngai), Gia Rai (Gia Lai) and Co Tu (Quang Nam). They will introduce visitors to their cultural practices and traditional customs.

The opening ceremony and an arts programmer entitled, ‘Melody from the forests’, on April 19 will be the highlight of this year’s event.

An exhibition and performance entitled, ‘Bamboo in Vietnamese national music’, and another exhibition featuring photos and paintings on the land and people of the Central Highland and South Central Coastal regions are expected to attract a large number of visitors.

Traditional festivals of ethnic minority groups will be reproduced on the occasion, including a ceremony to worship ancestors of Lo Lo people in Ha Giang.

In addition, visitors will have a chance to join traditional folk games such as tug-of-war along with performances of national music.

The annual programmes aim to preserve and uphold the traditional cultural value of Vietnamese ethnic communities, enhance the great national unity bloc and attract more visitors to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.
