CAJ 19th General Assembly concludes in Bangkok

NDO - The 19th General Assembly of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) convened in Bangkok, Thailand from January 24-28.

The delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) attending the event was led by Thuan Huu, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC Communication and Education Commission, and Chairman of the VJA.

In his opening speech, CAJ Chairman Thuan Huu reviewed important milestones and achievements that have been made by the CAJ and associations in the past 42 years of its formation and development.

In 2015, the VJA undertook the chairmanship of CAJ, at the time of the establishment of the ASEAN Community, he noted, adding that since then, the VJA and colleagues from ASEAN countries have joined hands in building a dynamic CAJ through effective exchange programmes.

During the five-day event, ASEAN journalists discussed issues of common concern at both the bilateral and multilateral level; evaluated the implementation of CAJ's programme from 2015 to 2017; supplemented and amended the CAJ Charter; and adopted the "Bangkok Declaration", affirming the determination to strengthen the organisation and enhance the reputation of the regional journalist.

On this occasion, Cambodia’s Club of Cambodian Journalists also became the eighth member of the CAJ.

Before the closing session, VJA Chairman Thuan Huu thanked the CAJ members and Thailand’s Confederation of Thai Journalists (CTJ), as the Vice President of CAJ from 2015 to 2017, for supporting the VJA to successfully fulfil the role of President and handed over the chair of the CAJ to CTJ Chairman Thepchai Young.
