NDO - The Party Central Committee’s Secretariat convened a meeting in Hanoi, on February 23, to review the results of the implementation of the Secretariat's Instruction No.16 on the organisation of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday 2018, under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

All of the Secretariat members agreed that the organisation of the traditional holiday was implemented in a synchronous, practical and effective manner.

The report presented at the meeting highlighted the surge in tourism in many areas, with the number of visitors to most key tourism sites increasing by 15-20% compared to the previous Tet.

The supply of goods was ensured, prices were kept stable, with due support given to disadvantaged groups such as policy beneficiaries and needy people. The average Tet bonuses for workers increased by 13%, whilst farmers’ incomes were also improved.

Speaking at the meeting, the Party chief lauded the effective preparation made by the relevant agencies and sectors for Tet, the largest festival of the year for Vietnamese people.

He also hailed the work of the armed forces, the health sector, the media and other agencies in ensuring an abundant and safe holiday for the people.

However, he expressed his concern on the large number of traffic accidents despite a reduction compared to previous years, as well as the abuse of alcohol and firecrackers during the holiday.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also requested the prompt resumption of work immediately after Tet, as well as the deployment of effective measures to boost the management and organisation of cultural festivities across the country.
