NDO - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Japan and his attendance at the Future of Asia Conference 2017 in Tokyo follows the visits to Vietnam by Japanese Emperor Akihito and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the last year.
The Vietnam-Japan relationship has been continuously cultivated and strengthened, especially since the two countries established “an extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia” in 2014. The bilateral relationship is now in its finest period, having become increasingly comprehensive and substantive in many respects, with a high level of political trust. The two sides maintain frequent high-level visits and meetings.
The world’s largest economy is currently one of Vietnam’s leading economic partners, largest ODA provider, second largest foreign investor, fourth largest trading partner and third largest source of tourists. Vietnam and Japan are working to connect the two economies in a sustainable manner whilst focusing on bolstering trade, investment, production capacity and human resources on the principle of mutual benefits.
Cooperation between the two countries has also seen positive progress in education, labour, response to climate change, science and technology, education and training, culture, sports, tourism and the environment. Local and people-to-people exchanges are developing rapidly and substantively.
During the official visit to Japan, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is scheduled to meet the Japanese emperor, hold talks with his counterpart Shinzo Abe as well as attend various meetings with business leaders in order to deepen the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership in a more comprehensive and meaningful manner. While in Japan, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the International Conference on the Future of Asia, an annual forum inaugurated in 1995, bringing political leaders and business executives together to discuss major issues affecting the development, peace and prosperity in the region. The Vietnamese leader will deliver a keynote address in the opening session, expressing Vietnam’s view on the process of globalisation in the new context, common challenges facing Asia and response measures, as well as affirming that Vietnam is active and proactive in international integration, participating and contributing to common issues of interest in the region and the world.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Japan asserts that the two sides will continuously work to reinforce political trust and both attach importance to further deepening the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership. Concurrently the visit is the continued implementation of Vietnam’s foreign policy of active and proactive international integration, making responsible contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large.
May Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit be a success, helping to foster the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership in a more comprehensive manner as well as strengthen relations between Vietnam and other Asian countries, including ASEAN members, for the interest of each country’s people, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
