NDO – The atmosphere of preparing and getting ready for the welcome of the 21 leaders of APEC member economies to attend the APEC Summit 2017, has been saturating Vietnam, especially in the central coastal city of Da Nang, where the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 has been proceeding. As the most important event of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and the focus of Vietnam’s foreign policy this year, the APEC Summit 2017 is being anticipated by both the Vietnamese people and the international community, and is strongly expected to generate solid results, deciding the success of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017.
The Asia-Pacific region is entering a new phase of development with radical, rapid and complicated changes, notably the fourth industrial revolution and the globalisation process which is facing some hindrances, such as the inward trend, protectionism, as well as challenges to ensuring the sustainability and inclusiveness of the international economic growth and connection process. In that context, the theme of “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future” and other initiatives and priorities, proposed by Vietnam aiming to materialise the theme of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017, have received active support from the forum’s member nations. These contents practically serve the needs of the people and businesses in the region, whilst contributing to the implementation of Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy until 2020 and the building of a facilitative Government of integrity and action, in service of the people and enterprises.
Hosting the APEC forum for the second time, Vietnam has presided over the APEC 2017 committees and working groups with more than twice as many as in 2006. Since the beginning of 2017, the country has effectively organised over 200 activities at all levels within the forum, with the participation of more than 9,000 international and domestic delegates, leaving a good impression in the heart of international and regional friends about an innovative and dynamic Vietnam of huge potential and proactive international integration. The outcomes of APEC activities, held so far this year, have been on the right track, practically meeting the benefits of member economies and preparing important contents that will be submitted to the leaders at the 25th APEC Summit slated for tomorrow (November 11), aiming to help APEC to overcome challenges and make the best use of the opportunities in the new situation.
The results achieved in the Vietnam APEC Year 2017 not only demonstrate APEC’s political commitment to continuously pursuing the path of liberalising trade and investment, facilitating business and supporting the open, fair and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system. They are also a strong message of APEC member economies on the determination to promote sustainable, creative and inclusive growth; facilitate extensive regional economic connectivity; enhance the competitiveness and creativity of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the digital era; and strengthen food security, sustainable agriculture and climate change adaptation. These are the important factors in order to prepare the forum for a new stage of development.
The thorough preparations and the results obtained across aspects so far serve as a solid premise for a belief that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, the most important event of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017 will conclude on a high note.
Welcoming the 21 leaders of APEC member economies, alongside more than 10,000 delegates and correspondents, from both at home and abroad, to participate in the activities of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, Vietnam wishes to join APEC member countries to deepen multifaceted cooperation within the bilateral framework, whilst working to making APEC cooperation increasingly beneficial to both the people and businesses, thus accelerating the implementation of APEC’s long-term goal of building a peaceful, secure, stable, developing and prosperous Asia-Pacific region, and contributing to enhancing APEC’s pioneering role in the regional and global economic structure.
With a new position after more than 30 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), Vietnam is determined and has focused resources on successfully organising the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, especially the 25th APEC Summit. By these efforts, Vietnam demonstrates its determination for synchronous and comprehensive reforms and proactive and active international integration, whilst affirming itself as a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community. They also help to affirm the country’s policy of diversification and multilateralisation of international relations, and proactive international integration, contributing to building and shaping the multilateral institutions proposed by the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress.
