NDO – This was the first time Nhan Dan Newspaper had a display booth at the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP)’s 40th Avante Festival. During the three days (September 1-3), numerous Portuguese and international friends visited the booth to learn more about the rich and long history of Vietnam, as well as the country’s development in the process of international integration.

Visitors could see Vietnam’s national flag and the traditional flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) flying in the centre of the International area at the festival. The portrait of President Ho Chi Minh was placed in the centre of the Vietnam’s booth.

On display were photos, documents, books and publications on the land and people of Vietnam, under the leadership of the CPV during the cause of Doi Moi (renewal) and the protection of the country’s sovereignty. Leaders of the PCP and Avante newspaper appreciated and thanked Nhan Dan Newspaper for the display booth that enabled the Portuguese people to understand more about the achievements of Vietnam, contributing to enhancing the cooperation and mutual support between the two countries.

A number of PCP’s members said that they still preserve several Nhan Dan papers that contain outstanding articles published during the resistance war against American imperialism. They also expressed their pleasure at Nhan Dan Newspaper’s development with more publications, including the television channel, for the communication of the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies.

Rita and her sister spent a long time capturing the images of culture and tourism in Vietnam, while their parents wished to have a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh who they have always admired.

Vietnam’s display booth attracted a large number of visitors. Nhan Dan Newspaper’s reporters as well as overseas Vietnamese and Portuguese volunteers made great efforts to provide information on Vietnam’s current situation. The visitors received small gifts, including magazines, books, newspapers and records on the country that they love.

Avante Festival is a very festive event held annually in the first weekend of September in a park in Seixal city, a suburb of Lisbon captial. The crowds move around the park to call for people to join in with the rally in support of the festival.

During the festival, Portuguese people from different provinces and cities gather to show their force as well as to express their revolutionary spirit, in support of the PCP.

Thousands of Portuguese people, particularly those from the working class, consider the festival as an important opportunity for them to raise their voices in support of the PCP as well as demonstrating the common aspirations of the progressive people in the world on building a peaceful and democratic world.

Overseas Vietnamese volunteers, particularly Thuy Tien (in conical hat) and Portuguese friends enthusiastically supported Nhan Dan Newspaper’s reporters in arranging an impressive booth at the 2017 Avante Festival.
