NDO – The National Steering Committee on Combating Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (Steering Committee 389) held a national videoconference in Hanoi on March 9 to review implementation in 2016 and set out tasks for 2017, under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, head of the steering committee.

Addressing the event, Politburo member Binh noted that positive results have been recorded in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and fake commodities, contributing to increasing budget revenues, protecting the business climate and consumers’ rights and promoting socio-economic development.

He asked participants to uphold the sense of responsibility and point out achievements, specify shortcomings and discuss advantages and challenges in anti-smuggling work, as well as put forward effective measures for 2017 and the time ahead.

Discussion should be focused on the pressing issues of public concern, such as smuggling, trade fraud, production and trade in counterfeit and low-quality goods, intellectual property infringement in addition to the trafficking of oil and petroleum, tobacco, wildlife products, wine and beer, fertilizer, drugs, functional foods and cosmetics, Binh requested.
