Drug Crime Investigation Police force marks 20th anniversary

Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General To Lam pins the Feat-of-Arms Order, first class, to the traditional flag of the Police Department for the Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes.

NDO – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on March 9 to celebrate the 20th founding anniversary of the Police Department for the Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes under the Ministry of Public Security (March 12, 1997 – 2017).

The event was attended by Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister To Lam appreciated the efforts, feats of arms and achievements that the Police force for the Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes has gained over the past 20 years.

He emphasised that drug prevention and control is one of the key, urgent and long-term tasks in the world, including Vietnam.

The Minister asked the police force for the Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes to enhance their advisory work to the Party committees and governments at all levels in leading the implementation of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s resolutions, National Assembly and Government on preventing, controlling and combating drug crimes in the new situation.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, Minister To Lam presented the Feat-of-Arms Order, first class, to the department.

So far, the Police Department for the Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes has settled over 172,000 cases and arrested more than 283,000 drug offenders as well as seized over 3,179 kg of heroin, over 4,558kg of opium, 30,000 kg of dry cannabis, over one million opioid tablets and nearly 1.7 million synthetic drug tablets.

In addition, the department has eliminated and neutralized 7,872 complex points purchasing and using drugs.
