NDO—Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met withvoters in Hai Phong’s Do Son District on May 13 to listen to their opinions on the threshold of the third session of the 14th National Assembly (NA).
At the meeting, voters expressed their thoughts and aspirations and made suggestions for the NA’s third session. Voters said they expected the session would discuss and ratify a range of key policies to further boost national socioeconomic development; firmly safeguard the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Fatherland; and continuously improve the spiritual and material lives of the people.
Some voters urged the Government to direct relevant authorities to accelerate the construction of key projects in Hai Phong—especially transportation projects of national importance—and to support the city in diversifying its investment in infrastructure to serve development goals and improve people’s lives.
Local voters also highlighted the need for more investment to improve the quality of education and training, to build housing for students and to offer specialised training for medical staff at provincial and district-level hospitals in order to curb overloads at central hospitals.
Informing voters about key features of the nation’s socioeconomic situation, PM Phuc emphasised the Government, ministries, branches and local authorities’ efforts in striving for the targets and tasks set for 2017.
The Government leader also asked the city’s authorities to exert more efforts to ensure better social welfare and healthcare policies for people benefiting from preferential policies, as well as to improve the quality of life for locals, to ensure social order and safety and to promote investment in line with strong reforms of administrative procedures, describing solidarity and consensus as decisive factors in ensuring faster and more sustainable development for Hai Phong.
Also on May 13, the Hoa Phuong Do (Flamboyant Red Flower) Festival 2016 opened in Hai Phong in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
The annual event, named after the symbol of Hai Phong - the flamboyant red tree grown across the city - was initiated in 2012 as a new tourism product with attractive and colourful cultural and sport activities at various cultural sites, popular tourist destinations and the main streets of Hai Phong.
