Party chief meets retired high ranking officials

NDO – The Party Central Committee’s (PCC’s) Secretariat held a gathering with retired high ranking officials in Hanoi, on May 17, in the presence of Party General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong.

The event saw the participation of more than 200 delegates who are former Party and State leaders, and officials. Prominent among them were former Party General Secretaries, Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; former President, Truong Tan Sang; former Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung; former National Assembly Chairmen, Nguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung.

At the meeting, PCC Secretary and Chief of the PCC Office, Nguyen Van Nen, briefed participants on the outcomes of the PCC’s fifth plenum as well as the country’s socio-economic situation, security and defence, external relations, Party building and fight against corruption during the first months of this year.

The delegates then contributed their opinions and suggestions to boost the country’s socio-economic development, enhance Party building, prevent and drive back ideological, ethical and lifestyle degradation, as well as the manifestation of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” inside the Party.

Addressing the event, Party General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong, applauded opinions made by the former high-ranking officials.

He said that the regional and global situations in 2016 and the first months of 2017 have seen complicated developments in terms of both opportunities and challenges.

In Vietnam in particular, despite drought, floods, and environmental pollution, the country and its people have overcome difficulties to optimise all available potential and advantages to facilitate national development and have gained significant progress, he said.

He stressed on determination, solidarity and high consensus inside the Party and among the people, as well as sound and clear-sighted guidelines and policies in order to ensure the country’s progress.

He also took this opportunity to wish the retired high-ranking officials good health, happiness and success, expressing hope that they would make further contributions to the Party and State and their motherland.
