NDO - Nguyen Xuan Anh has been dismissed as secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and removed from the Party Central Committee (PCC) after being found to have committed serious violations.

The disciplinary measures against Anh were adopted by the PCC at a meeting on October 6.

According to the Central Inspection Commission, Anh was dishonest when using degrees awarded by an unaccredited educational institution and failed to set a good example as a Party member.

He obtained a master’s degree and a doctorate in business administration from the California Southern University, formerly Southern California University for Professional Studies, but the institution is not recognised by Vietnam’s education ministry.

The Da Nang Party chief has also been found to have violated the Communist Party of Vietnam’s regulations on personnel and accepting cars and houses which have been given to him by enterprises as gifts.

Meanwhile, Anh is held accountable for various other violations committed by the Da Nang Party Committee as its head.

The Politburo had sent a prior warning to the Da Nang Party Committee for violating the Party’s working regulations, the principle of democratic centralism and laws on land and urban management.

As part of the third working day of the PCC’s sixth plenum, the PCC also elected two new members to the Secretariat.

They are Phan Dinh Trac, head of the Central Commission for Internal Affairs; and Nguyen Xuan Thang, director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.
