NDO - The 10th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) concluded on January 22 after five days of working in a serious, democratic and responsible manner.
The Congress was a great success, marking a new milestone for Lao, and creating a strong impetus for Laos’s further development. The Congress affirmed the sound policy of the LPRP, a steadfast revolutionary Party, dedicated to the goal of national independence, the country’s wealth and the people’s happiness as well as peace, national independence, democracy and social progress in the world.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam would like to convey the warmest sentiments and congratulations to the Party, State and people of Laos on the success of the 10th National Congress of the LPRP. We believe that under the effective leadership of the LPRP headed by General Secretary Bounnhang Vorachith, the people of Laos will continue to record new greater achievements in the renovation cause, implementing successfully the resolution of the 10th Party Congress to build Laos into a peaceful, independent, democratic, unified and prosperous socialist-oriented country.
The 10th National Congress of the LPRP took place as the country just celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the LPRP, the 40th anniversary of National Day of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the 95th birthday of the late President Kaysone Phomvihane. During the Congress, 685 delegates representing more than 200,000 Party members participated in lively and democratic discussions, provided feedback, and adopted documents of strategic importance to the development of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The results are the Political Report of the 9th tenure Party Central Committee, manifesting the desire of the entire Party and people to bring the Lao revolution to socialism; the 8th five-year socio-economic plan for the 2016-2020 period with the goal of lifting the country out of underdevelopment by 2020 and striving to reach an average annual GDP growth rate of 7.5%; the socio-economic strategy for the 2016-2025 period; the 2030 Vision report and the amended Party charter.
The Congress reviewed important achievements and valuable lessons from the implementation of the 9th Congress’s resolution in the past five years as well as 30 years of reform. The Congress drew seven lessons and outlined seven new orientations and tasks in the country’s next stage of development. Facing new opportunities and challenges in national construction, defence and development, the LPRP has affirmed its steadfastness in comprehensively reforming under certain principles.
The Congress elected the 10th tenure Party Central Committee with 69 official members and eight alternate members, and the Central Inspection Committee and the Secretariat with nine members. The Party Central Committee elected Bounnhang Vorachith as General Secretary and the Politburo with 11 members.
We firmly believe that with the proud revolutionary tradition and the effective leadership of the LPRP, the Lao people will build on achievements recorded in recent years to successfully implement the 10th Party Congress’ resolution, meeting all the set targets, continuing to bring Laos’ renovation cause to success.
Once again, the Party, State and people of Vietnam will do their best to, together with Laos, preserve and continuously cultivate the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity in a more substantive and effective manner, for the sake of each country’s people, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and around the world.
May the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos last forever.
