NDO – Vietnamese history has undergone thousands years of national construction and defence. Many generations of Vietnamese people, full of patriotism, bravery, and an unyielding spirit, have laid down their lives to contribute to the liberation, construction and defence of their fatherland.

The Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day (July 27) has been a major celebration over the past 71 years for the entire nation to express their deep gratitude to the heroes, and wounded and fallen soldiers for their great sacrifices and contributions to national independence, peace, reunification and protection.

The Party, State and people always attach great importance to caring for and realising the policies for contributors to the revolutionary cause and their families. So far, over 9 million national contributors have been identified. Priority policies and laws targeting national contributors have been completed in line with the country’s socio-economic development, creating a foundation for the full development of social activities in support of national contributors across the country.

Since the Secretariat's Directive No. 14-CT/TW on continuing the strengthening of the Party's leadership in their work in support of national contributors, signed by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, was promulgated on July 19, 2017, the law and policy system on revolutionary contributors has been revised and completed to keep up with the current situation.

All available resources from the entire society have been mobilised to fund activities in gratitude of national contributors and the popularisation of the revolutionary tradition to people from all walks of life, particularly younger generations, has been stepped up.

To further promote the gratitude to those who contributed to the revolutionary cause, the entire Party and people are determined to take synchronous measures to ensure that the national contributors will have an equal or higher living standard than the average living standard of the people in their residential areas by 2020.

National contributors have received health care and have been supported with housing services whenever they are in difficulty. Their relatives and children have had support in vocational training and job creation. Businesses run by wounded and sick soldiers have been provided with most the favourable condition to facilitate their operation and integration into the country’s socio-economic development.

In addition, sound investment has been stimulated for the building and upgrade of cemeteries and constructions dedicated to fallen soldiers. The search for, and repatriation and identification of fallen soldiers' remains have also been fully implemented.

Paying gratitude and taking care of national contributors have contributed to promoting national renewal, integration and development. It is a sound way to consolidate and safeguard trust and the revolutionary tradition, which have been maintained and cherished by many generations of Vietnamese people, including heroes, and wounded and fallen soldiers.
