NDO/VNA – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception in Hanoi, on November 6, for Executive Chairman of the Chinese Alibaba Group Jack Ma who is in Vietnam in order to attend the Vietnam E-Payment Forum.

Jack Ma said that his visit aims to study Vietnam’s e-commerce, alongside seeking cooperative opportunities with Vietnamese partners in this field.

He said the opportunity for e-commerce development in Vietnam remains huge as the country has a young and active population.

He expressed his interest in Vietnam’s master plan on e-commerce development during 2016-2020, which targets 30 percent of the population conducting e-commerce transactions by 2020.

To achieve the goal, Jack Ma proposed building policies aimed at hastening non-cash payments, including e-payments on smart phones, and paying attention to accelerating the processing of logistics service procedures.

Acknowledging the guest’s proposals, PM Phuc assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consider them and boost their cooperation with Alibaba.

He asked Alibaba to open a Vietnam store in order to introduce Vietnamese products to consumers in China, and cooperate with Vietnamese partners in training e-commerce skills and helping macro enterprises and people to gain access to e-commerce.

He said that he hopes to receive assistance and investment from Jack Ma and the Alibaba Group in start-up funds in Vietnam.

Jack Ma said that he endorsed the creation of the Vietnam store on Alibaba and that he will work to step up the cooperative forms to help develop e-commerce in Vietnam.
