PM appreciates FIFA’s support for Vietnam’s football development

NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly values the International Football Federation (FIFA)’s support for the development of Vietnamese football, through the body’s specific projects in discovering and training young talents, facilitating the amateur and women’s football movements, and training referees.

The PM made the statement while hosting a reception for visiting FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, in Hanoi, on February 8.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always creates favourable conditions for the healthy and sustainable development of football in Vietnam, through completing the legal framework on football development, promoting football practice, and organising amateur and professional football tournaments for different age groups.

The leader called for continuous assistance from FIFA and Infantino himself toward the development of Vietnamese football.

For his part, the FIFA chief spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts in developing football, hailing Vietnam’s recent AFC U23 miracle as the result of the constant support from the Vietnam Football Federation and the Vietnamese Government, as well as the encouragement from Vietnamese football lovers.

He expressed his impression over the enthusiasm of Vietnamese football fans through the fabulous way they in which they celebrated the AFC feat achieved by Vietnam U23s, affirming that Vietnam has become an example of professionalism and seriousness in football training, reflected through the Vietnam U23 team’s success.

FIFA is implementing a school football development project in Vietnam, Infantino stated, calling for the Vietnamese Government’s support, in terms of mechanisms and policies, in order to encourage and foster the love for football among both schoolboys and schoolgirls.

At the meeting, PM Phuc extended his Tet wishes and presented FIFA President Gianni Infantino with Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake) and Gio (Vietnamese sausage), traditional dishes imbued with cultural identities on the traditional Tet occasion in Vietnam.
