NDO/VNA - The Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation and an important resource for national development, said President Tran Dai Quang.

President Quang made the affirmation at a meeting with the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in India in New Delhi on March 4 before wrapping his three-day State visit to the country.

The State leader hailed the recent achievements the embassy has gained and its efforts to successfully organise his visit to India.

He briefed the participants on Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, highlighting the nation’s successful hosting of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017 and the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

He underlined the traditional friendship between Vietnam and India, which was founded by late Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh, and has been nurtured by generations of leaders and people of both countries.

The President also highlighted the two nations’ long-term connections in terms of culture and religion, saying that more and more Vietnamese people visit Buddhist places in India.

The establishment of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership in 2007, which was upgraded to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016, has proven growing cooperation in the fields of politics, national defence-security, economy-trade, science-technology, and culture-education between the two countries, he said.

President Quang hailed the organisation of the Friendship Year 2017 in both nations with numerous activities to mark the 45th founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership.

He asked Vietnamese Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh and the embassy’s staff to continue making efforts to develop the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership more practically in the coming time, and increase culture, trade and investment promotion activities, thus realising the target of US$15 billion in two-way trade by 2020.

On the occasion, President Quang presented the Labour Order, second class to the embassy.
