NDO – The Vietnamese Embassy in the United State hosted a banquet in Washington DC, on November 29, to mark a successful year in the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and the agreeable conclusion of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017.

The event witnessed the attendance of Matt Pottinger, Special Assistant to US President Donald Trump and National Security Council (NSC) Senior Director for East Asia; Everrett Eissenstat, Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council (NEC); Susan Thornton, Acting Assistant Secretary of State; James Fatheree, Vice President of the US Chamber of Commerce; and Daniel Kritenbrink, US Ambassador to Vietnam.

Addressing the banquet, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US, Pham Quang Vinh, hailed 2017 as an especially important year in the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with the US visit made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May and the visit to Vietnam made by President Donald Trump, as well as his participation in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017 in Da Nang last month. During these two visits, both countries issued a joint statement, lifting the comprehensive partnership to a new height and further expanding their bilateral trade relations. The two sides also pledged to strengthen their ties in the fields of foreign affairs, education, science-technology and defence-security, whilst agreeing to boost their cooperation in regional issues and challenges.

In a pleasant atmosphere, Vinh thanked friends in the US administration and Congress, as well as US scholars and businesses, for having cooperated closely with Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in the US over the past few years, which has significantly contributed to the success of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, as well as the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

For their part, the US representatives highly appreciated Vietnam’s position and development policies, affirming that they value the US’s partnership with the Southeast Asian country and will continue to accelerate the comprehensive partnership between the two countries across all spheres.

Congratulating Vietnam on its successful organisation of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2017, contributing significantly to the cooperation, development and prosperity of the APEC bloc, as well as the whole region, the US participants expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese Embassy for its efforts and contributions to the aforementioned success, thus creating trust and prestige in the community of friends from the authority, congress and other circles in the US.
