NDO – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has asked the Japanese parliament to continue encouraging Japanese companies to further invest in Vietnam, thereby contributing to facilitating the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership in a more efficient fashion.

The Deputy PM made the call while hosting a reception for a delegation of Japanese parliamentarians, headed by Takuji Yanagimoto, who are now in Hanoi for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26).

Minh spoke highly of the contributions made by the Japanese delegation, and Yanagimoto himself, to the preparation and organisation of the APPF-26 in Vietnam, thus contributing to the common success of the conference.

The Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic cooperative partnership is currently in its best stage of development since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, he said, stating that the two countries regularly maintain the exchange of delegations at all level, especially at a high level.

The two sides reached a consensus on the significance of free trade towards the process of socio-economic development throughout the world amid the increasing protectionism. Politburo member Minh highly appreciated the role played by Japan in accelerating the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

On the occasion, the deputy PM thanked Japan for providing Vietnam with a huge source of official development assistance (ODA), which, he said, has contributed significantly to Vietnam’s achievements today, especially in the field of infrastructure development.

For his part, Takuji Yanagimoto shared Deputy PM Minh’s positive assessments of the Vietnam-Japan relations over the past few years, whilst voicing the Japanese delegation’s admiration for Vietnam’s development achievements, as well as their pledge to continue contributing actively to the success of the APPF-26.

He also affirmed that the Japanese parliament is committed to strengthening its cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly.
