NDO – Fifty poor ethnic minority students at Bat Xat district’s Ethnic Boarding School in Lao Cai province were presented with bicycles on January 6 for gaining outstanding academic results.

The gifts were raised by organisers and benefactors under the call of the Fund for Ethic Minority and Poor Students of the Cong An Nhan Dan (People’s Police) Newspaper.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh shared the difficulties facing the students, noting that the bicycles were presented to help them shorten the time taken to travel to school and encourage them to gain better results in study.

He also expressed hope that the gifts will be a source of encouragement for the students motivating them to go further and achieve success in the future.

He also expressed his delight at the overall achievements made by Lao Cai provincial Party committee and its people, particularly the local education and training sector, over the past years.

He noted with pleasure that education quality in the province has been enhanced and the infrastructure system as well as learning teaching equipment at schools there have also been improved.

He asked the local authorities and education and training sector to devise policies to support poor ethnic minority students to overcome their difficulties in life and study and nurture them to become good citizens who will contribute to the development of their locality.
