NDO – A programme entitled ‘Safe Meals’ was launched in Hanoi on August 20 to raise public awareness of safer food for better health.

The programme is held jointly by the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations, Hanoi city Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Health, and Industry and Trade.

In the first period, it was piloted in five apartment complexes in Hanoi before it is expanded to 30 complexes by 2020.

The programme has so far attracted the participation of more than 200 production, processing and trading facilities of agro-forestry and fishery products in Hanoi. They are businesses that have succeeded in utilising advanced technologies in production.

They have committed to providing customers with products at a stable price with adequate information of origin code and labels.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam expressed his appreciation towards the organisers for hosting the programme, which would help encourage the production and consumption of safe food.

He stressed the need to strictly punish any act of manufacturing unsafe food, calling on businesses and localities to take practical actions to ensure food safety.

He also asked for closer coordination among the State, scientists, journalists, businesses and customers in order to detect unsafe food and better the management of food quality.
