NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam congratulated doctors and medical workers on Vietnam Doctors’ Day (February 27) while on a visit to the Vietnam Medical Association (VMA) in Hanoi on February 23.

The deputy PM recognised the VMA’s good coordination with the Health Ministry on public health care, policy making, and international cooperation over the past few years.

He asked the VMA to formulate policy-related recommendations in order to swiftly implement the autonomy mechanism at large hospitals, in addition to improving the quality of its medical research journals and further engaging in training human resources for the health sector.

The association was also encouraged to improve the dissemination of disease prevention and treatment knowledge to the populace, whilst further enhancing international cooperation on the basis of utilising the academic and expertise prestige of its members.

According to VMA President Nguyen Thi Xuyen, the association currently gathers 48 specialised organisations and 54 provincial-level associations, with hundreds of thousands of members, including many leading experts and doctors.

He asked the VRC Central Committee to build on these fine results and continue its current practical activities, especially the voluntary blood donation movement.
