NDO – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on March 17 to officially open the 2017 National Press Festival which features the participation of 470 press agencies from across the country.
The event was attended by Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy PM Dam emphasised that press is a core force, playing an indispensable role in the cause of the national construction and defence.
The national press festival is an annual cultural event held by the Vietnam Journalists' Association (VJA) promoting the efficiency of press activities, he said.
The Deputy PM also noted that the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and other Party’s Resolutions, particularly Resolution No. 4 of the eleventh Party Central Committee on Party building and preventing and fighting against ideological, ethical and lifestyle degradation, as well as the manifestation of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation,” have set out many tasks and measures for the press.
The resolutions require the enhancement of the management of press activities and information as well as strict punishment of violations in press and publication activities and prompt praise for individuals and collectives with outstanding achievements, in order to create favourable environment for the press development, he added.
Deputy PM Dam asked journalists to always improve their knowledge and professional skills as well as enhance their political consciousness to fulfil their tasks.
This year’s festival displays 437 publications, including special editions for 2017 New Year and Tet (Lunar New Year). In addition, nearly 100 special TV shows for Tet and online newspaper interfaces as well as over 250 outstanding reports on the environment in 2016 are introduced to visitors.
According to the VJA’s Chairman and Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan (“The People”) Newspaper Thuan Huu, the three-day festival is expected to contribute to strengthening the relations between the press and the public as well as communicating the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and laws to people from all strata.
