13th Press Award for the Cause of Great National Unity launched

NDO – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee on June 19 launched the 13th Press Award for the Cause of Great National Unity 2017- 2018 and the debut of its Front Electronic Journal, in commemoration of the 92nd anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925-2017).
Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member cum President of VFF Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, gave his sincere thanks and best wishes to the press agencies for their silent and strenuous participation, in promptly reflecting information on the Front operation. Thanks to their efforts and creation, the Front work has been improved, facilitating journalists’ contribution to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Politburo member Nhan, who is also Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, affirmed that with 20,600 members from 800 press agencies, journalists and editors are important forces in reflecting the Party and the State's policies and laws, as well as the activities of relevant ministries, sectors and localities, and expressing the thoughts and aspirations of the people throughout the country, as well as initiating their models for national development. The media has been able to connect the people and the Party and authorities at all levels, he said.
He suggested that each journalist and editor, on the anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, continue to implement Party resolutions on Party building and rectifying, contributing to the success of the National Press Award on the Fight against Corruption. In particular, in the context of global innovation, every journalist and editor needs to be innovative in order to meet their job requirements and help the people trust in the leadership of the Party and State to ensure the rapid development of the country.
At the ceremony, the VFF Central Committee launched the 13th Press Award "For the Cause of the Great National Unity" during 2017-2018.
According to the rules, journalistic papers must be timely and accurate in detecting and commenting on the Party and State's undertakings and policies and VFF programmes of action in building and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc; while encouraging and motivating Party members, and people of all strata, to study and follow the moral example and style of President Ho Chi Minh, during the implementation of instructions and resolutions on Party building, setting up a clean and strong government, fighting against corruption, practicing thrift against wastefulness, and action programmes of the VFF during 2014-2019 term.

The press works should propagate campaigns and movements launched by the VFF, such as “Vietnamese give priority to use Vietnamese goods” and “the entire people to participate in environmental protection” campaigns, while expressing gratitude for activities in taking care of policy beneficiaries, and marking the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), in localities throughout the country.
They should also reflect the results of implementing regulations on social supervision and criticism of the VFF and socio-political organisations; regulations on participation of VFF, socio-political organisations and the people and contribute their ideas to build the Party and Government according to Politburo Decisions No. 217 and 218.
In addition, the works should compete against false allegations and the reactions of hostile forces against the Party and the State and the great national unity bloc; while facilitating the task of safeguarding political security, social order and safety, firmly defending Vietnam's territorial sovereignty over its sea, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone. The works should also reflect Vietnam's views and stance on issues related to the East Sea disputes and sentiments, while highlighting the aspirations and good deeds of intellectuals, religious dignitaries and overseas compatriots who make practical contributions to the great unity bloc.
The award covers various genres, including printed newspapers, radio, video, e-newspapers and press photos. Works submitted for the prize have to have been used by news agencies across the country from October 1, 2016 to September 20, 2018.
All professional or non-professional journalists, collaborators and communicators of domestic press agencies and overseas compatriots, who have press works meeting the above conditions, can send their work to the organising board. Each author is free to submit a maximum of five submissions in accordance with the requirements and conditions stated. In the case of multiple people joining in one work, the prize will be given to the group of authors. The maximum number of authors per group is seven.
The organisers will receive press works from June 21, 2017 to September 20, 2018 (according to postmarks). The winners will be announced on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the VFF Traditional Day (November 18, 2018). There are three types of prizes, with special prizes worth VND30 million, A prizes of VND15 million, B prizes of VND10 million, C prizes of VND5 million and consolation prizes worth VND3 million.
