NA Chairwoman presents Tet gifts to needy people

NDO – Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented 100 gifts to families of social welfare policies, poor households and victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang during her pre-Tet visit to the locality on February 4.

She also granted another 200 gifts to children with disabilities and their peers living in extreme difficulties in the province.

On the occasion, the senior legislator attended a programme jointly held by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children in support of the poor and needy children and AO victims.

At a working session with the local leaders, NA Chairwoman Ngan asked them to pay greater attention to social policy beneficiaries, the poor, children in special difficulties and AO victims, as well as socio-economic development and national defence and security.

She also lauded the achievements that the province recorded in 2017, with gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expanding by 9%, budget collection at over VND7.3 trillion (US$321.2 million), up 4.9% against the set yearly target and up 10.7% annually, while the provinces’ export turnover stood at US$2.5 billion.

In 2018, the province’s GRDP is expected to grow by 9-9.5%, while its per capita income is projected to increase up to VND48.2 million (US$2,121) annually and export revenues estimated at US$2.65 billion. The number of poor households is hoped to be reduced by 3.69%.

On February 4, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh visited the workers in the Mekong Delta province of Long An ahead of the Lunar New Year, praising their contributions to the national socio-economic development.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and the leaders of Hau Giang province presented Tet gifts to the workers at Nam Song Hau Industrial Zone in the locality.

Politburo member and Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Economic Affairs Nguyen Van Binh visited and presented Tet gifts to the workers at Thuy Van Industrial Park in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The same day, head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai and representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour presented Tet gifts to the workers of the metro route No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City and a similar event was also held in Hanoi on Sunday.
