NDO – Fishermen in coastal localities across the country have taken to the seas to haul in their first catches of the Lunar New Year.

Following the favourable weather on the days before and after the Lunar New Year holiday, fishermen in the coastal communes of Quang Binh province’s Le Thuy and Bo Trach districts dragged in nets overflowing with fish for a bumper harvest from offshore fishing.

The fish were all sold for high prices, ranging from VD50,000-150,000 for herring and bummalo.

After the Lunar New Year, fishermen have been preparing food and fuel for their next voyages after the 10th day in January of the lunar year.

Local fishermen in Quang Tri province earned high profits of VND40-50 million for each vessel every day from their first trips in the New Year.

* Meanwhile, coffee farmers in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak together watered their crops to officially kick start the 2018-2019 coffee season on Tuesday.

* The Tree Planting Festival, a fine tradition of Vietnam on the first days of the Lunar New Year, was launched simultaneously in Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces and at Army Division 968 yesterday. The annual event was held in accordance with Uncle Ho’s teachings since he organised the first event in 1960. It aims to raise awareness of the planting and protection of trees, thus helping to protect the environment.
