NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has instructed that the implementation of electronic toll collection (ETC) is hastened in the aims of facilitating transport and promoting transparency in toll collection activities.

The Government leader requested that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) coordinate with concerned localities and units in the first quarter of 2018 in urgently reporting to the PM on the roadmap for the transfer of road toll charges to ETC for all Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects.

He also asked the MOT to take prime responsibility in directing the concerned agencies to coordinate with BOT investors and ETC service providers for the transfer, ensuring the principle of deploying a unified technology nationwide.

Earlier in March 2017, the PM directed the implementation of ETC, but after nearly a year, the progress was slow, and there is still no specific roadmap for converting each toll station to ETC.

In addition, the deployment of automatic collection stations is still causing difficulties for people involved in traffic.

According to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, as of February 3, 17 out of the 28 BOT toll stations offer the ETC service.
