NDO – A photo contest on the theme of rural women and sustainable development was launched on March 8, with the aim of recognising rural women’s contributions to growth and prosperity of Vietnam.

As part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day 2018, the event was launched by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with the support of the Embassies of Australia and Canada to Vietnam.

The contest provides a platform for Vietnamese society to picture the positive changes they want to see regarding empowering rural women.

The competition is open to Vietnamese people from all ages. Participants are encouraged to submit photos under specific topics, including rural women and technology, rural women and sustainable agriculture, rural women and disaster/climate change, rural women in business and/or cooperatives, rural women in leadership and decision making, and gender equality between rural women and men.

Contestants can submit their images through email unwomen2010@gmail.com with the title “Rural & Sustainable Development Photo Contest,” or send a CD/DVD (sealed in an envelope including the name of the photo contest) to UN Women Vietnam, No. 304 Kim Ma street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

Submitted images should be in JPEG format, at least 200 dpi/inch, and 1-5 MB in size. They must include a detailed caption (no more than 100 words). Each entrant can submit up to 15 images with their names, date of birth, address, email, and mobile phone number included. Deadline for applications is June 8, 2018.

In the preliminary round, UN Women will upload 40 photos on its Facebook Page. The participant with most likes on Facebook will be rewarded with the People’s Choice Award. In the final round, the Judging Panel will select 30 photos for all awards.

There is one First Prize worth VND10 million, one Second Prize worth VND7 million, one Third Prize worth VND5 million, and the People’s Choice prize is worth VND5 million. The finalists’ works will be displayed at an exhibition on October 20 this year.
