NDO – The Indian Embassy in Vietnam organised the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme in Can Tho city, on February 22, to strengthen economic and technical training cooperation between India and Can Tho city in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.

Speaking at the event, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish said the ITEC Programme is one of the leading programmes of the Development Partnership Policy of India for partner countries, including Vietnam, starting from the 1970s to the present.

Continuing and promoting the success of the programme, this year, the Indian government will continue to implement ITEC Scholarship Programme in Vietnam with 150 scholarships, with short-term training courses (from two to 52 weeks) under different disciplines, such as managing and developing small and medium-sized enterprises, rural development, technology and many other intensive courses in India.

Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish expressed his hope that, through the ITEC Programme, cadres and civil servants of Can Tho City and the southwest region will be equipped not only with the necessary skills, but also with a long-term vision on socio-economic development in the context of strong globalisation, thereby contributing to national construction and diplomatic objectives with the world's economies, including India, in the future.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the City People's Committee Can Tho Vo Thanh Thong expressed his wish that the Indian Embassy in Vietnam will continue to support and create conditions for Can Tho city and the southwest region to receive more scholarships from the Indian Government in the future, contributing to further promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.
