Activities celebrate President Ho’s birth anniversary

NDO – A wide range of activities have been held across the country on May 19 to celebrate President Ho Chi Minh’s 127th birth anniversary.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) launched a programme on the life-long study and reading habits of President Ho at the Ho Chi Minh Museum.

The programme attracted the participation of many libraries, bookstores and publishing houses, who are scheduled to host an exhibition displaying books, newspapers and documents on the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh.

There are also activities targeting children, such as a story telling contest in addition to writing and painting competitions.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, MoCST Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that during his lifetime, President Ho always devoted time to his studies and was an avid reader, which helped him learn more about humanity’s quintessence and seek a right way to salvage the nation.

Minister Thien also stressed that during the international integration process and the rapid development of science and technology, self-study is vital to developing knowledge and experience which, when applied, can be used to further national development.

He called on media agencies to introduce successful self-study examples and requested libraries, reading rooms and publishing houses to renovate their operation in order to increase the quality of their documents and publications.

Also this morning, the second Golden Hammer and Sickle Awards were launched as a national journalism contest highlights Party-building work. The awards were held jointly by the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Vietnam Television, Communist Review, and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.

The contest is eligible for Vietnamese journalists and reporters from press agencies as well as Vietnamese citizens from both home and abroad.

Their entries should highlight the work of Party building and rectifying; capture political implications of the Party’s fight against bureaucracy, corruption and wastefulness; and suggest solutions to boost public confidence in the Party.

Contestants should send their entries to the Party Building Magazine, 69 Phan Dinh Phung street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi no later than October 31, 2017.

One grand prize and five A, 10 B, 15 C prizes will be presented to the most outstanding entries of the competition.

In celebration of President Ho’s 127th birth anniversary, local authorities of Pu Yen, Soc Trang, Hau Giang and Lam Dong provinces paid homage to the President at temples in the locality.
