NDO – Hanoi FC and SHB Da Nang played out a 1-1 draw in one of the most anticipated matches of the fifth round of the 2017 V-League last weekend.

Despite lacking forwards Hoang Vu Samson and Gonzalo, Hanoi welcomed good news as “powerhouse” Moses Oloya made the starting lineup after returning from the CAN 2017.

The presence of the Ugandan midfielder together with the flexibility of the midfield line created a number of opportunities for the host team during the first half; however, the top performance of goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Binh saved Da Nang a number of times against the constant attacks made by Van Quyet, Thanh Luong and Hung Dung.

It was not until the 43rd minute that Hanoi’s efforts paid off, with 19-year-old Quang Hai producing a brilliant left-footed straight shot 20 metres out from goal for the reigning champion’s opener.

After the break, Hanoi FC proactively slowed down their pace waiting for counterattack opportunities, which, however, gave Da Nang time and space for a vigorous resurgence.

Three lineup adjustments made by manager Le Huynh Duc worked as Eydison threatened the host side with a close-range strike hitting the cross bar before captain Nguyen Vu Phong tied up the score for the 2012 champions with a 73rd-minute curler which made it through to the top left corner of the net to the disbelief of goalie Anh Duc.

With time running out, manager Chu Dinh Nghiem’s players raised the pressure to get in front, but were unable to prevent Da Nang from securing a precious point at Hang Day Stadium.

The 1-1 result kept Hanoi FC at third in the provisional V-League standings with ten points, three points behind leaders Thanh Hoa, who continued building on their reign with a narrow 1-0 victory against Ho Chi Minh City.

Quang Nam shockingly beat hosts Song Lam Nghe An 4-2 to climb to second place with 11 points, while Hoang Anh Gia Lai moved up to third from bottom with four points after a straight 3-0 win over bottom-placed XSKT Can Tho. Captain striker Cong Phuong lived up to expectations contributing another double to Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s goal tally.
