NDO – Vietnam claimed a 2-0 win against Chinese Taipei in their opening match at the 2017 International U19 Football Tournament in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, on April 11.

It took just 15 minutes for Vietnam to open the scoring against underdogs Chinese Taipei. From a freekick situation, Nguyen Tuan Anh curled the ball towards the top corner with the helpless goalkeeper looking on.

The host team missed a golden opportunity to double the lead two minutes later, as Viet Anh was not successful on the penalty spot.

It was not until the 75th minute that Vietnam had the second goal after several missed chances. Viet Anh redeemed himself with an accurate penalty kick, thereby sealing a 2-0 victory for Vietnam.

With the sweet start, U19 Vietnam provisionally climbed to the top spot of the table with three points, followed by U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai (Vietnam) and U19 Gwangju (Republic of Korea), with one point each as a result of their goalless draw on the same day.

The tournament is taking place from April 11 to 22 with the participation of five teams, including U19 Vietnam, U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai, U19 Gwangju, U19 Chinese Taipei and U19 Myanmar.

The participants are competing in a round robin format to decide the top two teams for the final match and the next two for the third-place playoff. The overall champions will receive US$10,000 in prize money, while stakes of US$6,000, US$4,000 and US$2,000 will be rewarded to the next three teams, respectively.
