NDO – Le Tu Chinh, Mong Tuyen, Yen Hoa and Do Thi Quyen performed exceptionally on the afternoon of August 25 to bring home the first-ever 4x100m relay gold medal in history for Vietnam at the SEA Games arena.
After dominating short distances with the 100m and 200m sprint title, “speed queen” Le Tu Chinh went on to affirm her talent by contributing significantly to Vietnam’s supreme finish in the women’s 4x100m relay discipline.
Chinh and teammates completed the race with a time of 43.88 seconds, leaving far behind the Thai team with 44.62 seconds, and setting up a new Games record.
It was the first gold medal for Vietnam on the sixth official day of competition.
This victory inspired Vietnam’s victorious finish in the women’s 5,000m and long jump events, thanks to Nguyen Thi Oanh and Bui Thi Thu Thao (6.68 metres), respectively.
With the three newly won titles, Vietnam continues dominating the Games’ track and field competition with 14 gold medals.
Alongside the three golds, Vietnamese athletes also blasted two additional silver medals (each in track and field and shooting) and another bronze (sepak takraw).
Le Tu Chinh has pocketed three gold medals in this year's SEA Games, including two individual and one team title.
