NDO – Quang Nam have a hand on the 2017 V-League championship trophy after edging out Quang Ninh Coal 2-1 in a rescheduled match of the 24th round at Tam Ky Stadium on November 10.
Despite Quang Ninh’s better ball possession, it was the home side, Quang Nam, who created more opportunities to score, especially in the first half.
The first 45 minutes saw at least five solid chances produced in favour of Quang Nam, but all of them were missed by Thanh Trung, Dai Duong and Claudecir, respectively.
However, after 33 minutes of play, midfielder Huu Phuoc put Quang Nam ahead with a long-range strike from over 20 metres away.
The early advantage encouraged the host team to play with more confidence, but surprise came five minutes after the break, as Patiyo brought the match back to the starting line thanks to fast footwork that proved too difficult for the Quang Nam keeper to block.
Both sides played a nail biting game during the remainder of the match, with dangerous attacks constantly poured on to each half of the field.
With 10 minutes left to play, Quang Nam were awarded a penalty after Quang Ninh Coal’s Thanh Hao left hand touch the ball in the area. On the spot, Thanh Trung made no mistake, beating Quang Ninh goalie Hoai Anh to seal a crucial 2-1 win for the home side.
The victory helps Quang Nam to surpass Hanoi FC and reign on top of the V-League table with 45 points, three points ahead of the reigning champions Hanoi and last year’s fifth-place team, FLC Thanh Hoa.
On November 19, Quang Nam and Hanoi will meet in the most anticipated match of the penultimate round of this year’s V-League season.
