NDO – The Tuan Chau Ha Long Open 2018, a women’s one-star tournament of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour, officially commenced at the Tuan Chau International Resort in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, on May 10.

The four-day competition features the participation of 18 teams from 12 countries, including Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel, and hosts, Vietnam.

After the opening ceremony, the first clash of the Main Draw took place between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, with a 2-0 victory in favour of the guests.

Earlier, on May 9, the remaining two Main Draw tickets were presented to Fanny Lindstrom and Sara Malmstrom, who beat Talar Kirkor and Anniken Radstrom 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) in an all-Sweden clash, and the Israeli pair Sofia Starikov and Noy Chorin, who easily handled Russia’s Ekaterina Filina and Mariia Kontorskaia 2-0 (21-11, 21-13).

This is the 15th time that the women’s beach volleyball competition has been organised on Tuan Chau Island. From its humble origins as a domestic event, the tournament has been elevated into a continental-level event of the Asian Volleyball Federation, and has become an official destination on the FIVB’s Beach World Tour in 2018.
