Vietnam wins first gold in 2018 Asian Indoor Athletics Champs

NDO/VNA - Athlete Vu Thi Ngoc Ha of Vietnam won a gold medal in the triple jump at the 2018 Asian Indoor Athletics Championship on June 7, held in Gifu city, Japan.

She set the record of 13,22m, out jumping China’s best hope Pan Youqui by approximately one centimetre.

Despite Pan’s continued violations, Ha kept her nerve and beat the opponent with her massive jump.

Competing in this year’s championships, the Vietnamese team sent seven athletes, including Cao Vo Ngoc Long in the men’s high jump event, Vu Thi Ngoc Ha in the triple jump, Nguyen Van Chau in the 200m and 400m, Nguyen Trung Cuong in the 1500m and 3000m steeplechase, Pham Thi Thuy Hanh in the 1500m, Huynh Thi My Tien in the 100m hurdling and Nguyen Lan Anh in the high jump and women’s medley.

In the men’s steeplechase, Cuong passed the qualifying round in a time of 4:00.37.
