NDO – Becamex Binh Duong were unable to make use of their home-field advantage to secure a victory over Quang Nam as they succumbed to a 0-1 defeat to the guests in the ninth round of the 2017 V-League last weekend.

Five draws and three losses since the beginning of the season has left Binh Duong at 12th position in the standings just three points away from entering the relegation zone.

Starting with three forwards Sunday, Dugary and Anh Duc, the 2015 champions were strongly determined for a win to regain trust from local supporters. However, once again they let their fans down.

Ineffectiveness in combination situations prevented the hosts from producing threats to the Quang Nam side.

Meanwhile, the guests chose a wise counterattack strategy, counting on strikers Ha Minh Tuan and Claudecir for goals.

Quang Nam possessed the most concrete chance of the first half as Minh Tuan curled a cunning finish, which unluckily went wide.

Few opportunities were created by both teams throughout the majority of the second half, which led some to anticipate a goalless draw on aggregate.

However, in a fast counterattack in stoppage time, Claudecir dragged the ball past Binh Duong defenders before beating the host keeper for the solitary goal of the match in favour of Quang Nam.

The close victory lifted Quang Nam to second place with 16 points after nine matches, only two points behind leaders Thanh Hoa, who carried on with their unbeaten run following a goalless draw against Hai Phong.

Meanwhile, the bitter loss kept Binh Duong in 12th place at high risk of being relegated into the First Division tournament next season.
