NDO – FLC Thanh Hoa wasted the chance to consolidate their reign atop the provisional 2017 V-League standings after succumbing to a 1-2 away defeat to Hanoi FC in their Round 10 clash at Hang Day Stadium on March 19.
Despite strong support from fans, Thanh Hoa failed to take control of the game during the first 45 minutes.
It was not until the first-half stoppage time that captain Omar put the guests in front, 22 minutes after Samson missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring for Hanoi with a missed penalty kick.
The host team made several lineup adjustments in the second half, with Thanh Luong, Duc Huy and Thanh Trung sent onto the field.
Thanh Trung marked his presence with an 80th-minute volley that proved powerful enough to get past Thanh Hoa goalkeeper Thanh Thang for the equaliser.
Seconds before the final whistle, central back Dinh Tien Thanh carelessly scored an own goal, thereby gifting Hanoi FC a lucky 2-1 win.
Thanks to the victory, Hanoi has put an end to Thanh Hoa’s nine-game unbeaten run with five wins and four draws, and retained their fourth position with one game in hand.
Meanwhile, the bitter loss led Thanh Hoa to be caught at 19 points by Quang Nam, who edged out XSKT Can Tho 2-1 on home field on March 17.
Hai Phong safeguarded their third place position following a narrow 1-0 victory over Ho Chi Minh City, while Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN were held to a goalless draw by Saigon.
Song Lam Nghe An and Quang Ninh Coal recorded respective 2-0 home wins over Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Becamex Binh Duong.
Long An remained on the bottom with four points as a result of another 1-2 loss to SHB Da Nang.
