APG 2018 Day 5: Vietnam wins four additional medals

NDO – Vietnamese athletes with disabilities clinched an additional two silver and two bronze medals on October 11, the fifth official day of the ongoing 2018 Asian Para Games (APG) in Indonesia.

Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh strived to bring home a silver medal in the men’s 400m T12 event, clocking the second best time of 50.94 seconds, 0.96 seconds slower than the gold medalist, Alinajimi Vahid of Iran.

Vietnam’s second silver of the day was secured by swimmer Vo Thanh Tung, who finished second in the men’s 50m freestyle S5 category with a time of 34.40 seconds, just 0.31 seconds behind the fastest athlete, Muhammad Nur Syaiful of Malaysia.

It was also the last event for Tung in Indonesia. The Vietnamese star wrapped up his 2018 APG campaign with a sparkling collection of three golds (200m freestyle S5, 50m backstroke S5, 100m freestyle S5), two silvers (50m butterfly S5, 50m freestyle S5), one Asian record (100m freestyle S5) and two APG records (50m backstroke S5, 200m freestyle S5).

Vietnam’s bronze medals on Thursday were won in athletics, thanks to Nguyen Ngoc Hiep in the men’s 400m T11 (59.69 seconds) and Tran Van Nguyen in the men’s javelin throw F40 (32.79 metres).

As of 10pm on October 11, Vietnam secured a total of 27 medals – six golds, six silvers and 15 bronzes – ranking 11th among the total 44 participating delegations.
