Nhan Dan Online – Vietnam swimming star Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has been ranked among the world’s 10 best swimmers at the women’s mix 400m category, according to the latest announcement of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Anh Vien is also the 4th top Asian athlete ranked in the list after a Japanese and two Chinese players.
In 2014, a combined amount of US$200,000 (VND4 billion) has been invested for her training programme in the US.
The swimmer won four gold and two silver medals at the Florida Championship and secured second place at the women’s mix 400m event at the Orlando Grand Prix in the US, ranking just below the current world defending champion Katinka Hosszu.
With her success at the Florida Championship in early March, she now is listed among the top 12 outstanding young athletes in the US aged between 11-18 years old and was voted the best female athlete in the championships.
Anh Vien expects to clinch a gold medal at the coming Asian Games, scheduled for Incheon city, the Republic of Korea, in September 2014.
