NDO – Officials of Can Tho city met with a delegation from Japan Tourism Agency in Vietnam, on September 5, to discuss the tourism promotion prospects between Vietnam’s Can Tho city and Japan in the near future.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam stressed that in the direction of tourism development, Vietnam always views Japan as a key market. In recent years, the exchange of visitors between the two countries has increased significantly. Especially, in this year, the number of Japanese tourists to the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, including Can Tho city, has increased by almost 10% over the same period last year.
It is the result of the co-operation of national and local travel agencies, tourism associations and businesses of both sides over the past few years. It is also a very optimistic sign for the tourism development plan between Can Tho city and Japan, according to the Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee.
The Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee also expressed his hope that a strategic partnership between Can Tho city and the Japan Tourism Promotion Agency in Vietnam in promoting tourism would be established. Meanwhile, the two countries’ people will have an opportunity to better understand the culture, people, products and beauty of each country.
Takahashi Ayumi, Chief Representative of Japan Tourism Promotion Agency in Vietnam, who led the delegation, said the political relationship between Vietnam and Japan is at its best stage since 1973 when diplomatic relations were established, thus opening up opportunities for cooperation and development in many fields, including travel.
He said that in the near future, Japan Tourism Promotion Agency in Vietnam will launch many events, which will promote the tourism of both two countries.
He also asked the officials of Can Tho city to consider opening more international flights from Can Tho to major Japanese cities in order to create better conditions for Japanese tourists to visit Can Tho city and the western provinces.
