PM successfully wraps up trip to ASEAN Summit in Philippines

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Hanoi on November 15, successfully concluding his fresh trip to the 31st ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Manila, the Philippines, made at the invitation of the host’s President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The PM was involved in almost 30 bilateral and multilateral activities while attending the summit and relevant events from November 12-14. His participation demonstrated Vietnam’s active and responsible contributions to building an ASEAN of peace, stability and self-reliance and a region that is open to extra-bloc countries.

On the occasion, the PM met with his Cambodian and Lao counterparts, held talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in addition to hosting UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and President of the European Council Donald Tusk, to exchange measures with which to step up their bilateral cooperation.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and State President Xi Jinping concluded his two-day State visit to Vietnam on November 13.

During the visit, Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping held talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang, as well as meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Both sides agreed to boost their cooperation at regional and multilateral frameworks, such as the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the ASEAN-China, and the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, thus working together to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world. They agreed that the visit was a success, marking an important milestone in the bilateral ties and contributing significantly to enhancing the traditional friendship and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, while promoting peace, stability and development in the region and around the globe.

Vietnam-Cambodia friendship monument in Stung Treng restored

A monument dedicated to the voluntary Cambodian and Vietnamese soldiers was reinstated in Stung Treng province, Cambodia, on November 15, after undergoing a period of restoration.

The completed restoration of the friendship monument is evidence of the growing traditional solidarity and amity that exists between the countries, he said, calling on the younger generations of the two nations to join hands in nurturing the friendship.

The restoration is part of a project to repair all of the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship monuments in Cambodia. The project was funded by Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence and carried out in coordination with the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland.

Techfest 2017 spreads strong startup spirit among community

The third national startup festival (Techfest) 2017 opened in Hanoi on November 14, with the aim of promoting a strong entrepreneurial spirit and startup support in the community.

This year’s event is held under the theme of “Ecosystem Connect” gathering over 4,000 people with more than 400 investors, startups and big corporations. The two day festival sees the participation of various organisations that support innovative startups in six potential areas, including startup support organisations’ community; agriculture; education; travel and food service; medical and new technologies.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony, the MOST launched its National Startup Portal at www.startup.gov.vn, providing fully accurate and timely information on startup activities. Furthermore, it is also a useful bridge for young people to seek opportunities to participate in startup activities and share stories concerning successful startups across the country.

First Vietnam Real Estate Forum opens

The first annual Vietnam Real Estate Forum officially opened in Hanoi on November 15, featuring the participation of around 800 domestic and foreign investors, property businesses and experts.

Under the framework of the forum, several thematic seminars on topics such as "Cheap Commercial Housing and Social Housing", "Renovation of old apartment buildings", "Green Building" and "Resort Real Estate”, along with various discussion sessions, were held.

In addition to providing a panoramic view of the market in 2017 and updating the participants on the latest trends, the first annual Vietnam Real Estate Forum was also an opportunity to promote the brands and images of all stakeholders working in the field of investment, business, distribution and management of real estate operations both in the country and internationally.

First Italy-ASEAN Week kicks off in Hanoi

The first Italy-ASEAN Week, a programme to popularise the Italian culture and enhance the friendship between Italy and the ASEAN countries, opened in Hanoi on November 18.

The first activity of the week was an Italian culture fair held at Ly Thai To Park, during which an Italian style square was created, allowing visitors to experience the cuisine and wine, alongside the latest fashion designs from the European nation.

The week through December 4 will also feature a music show performed by Italian band Amici and students of the Hanoi University, a programme introducing the Renaissance culture, an exhibition of Laura Federici’s paintings, and a film screening.

Exhibition features portraits of APEC economic leaders

An applied fine art exhibition, featuring the portraits of the APEC economic leaders 2017, will be held at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi, from November 18-21.

The exhibition gathers valuable paintings that have been grafted from ceramic pieces from Dong Nai province, as well as a number of photos of ceramic paintings, featuring the portraits of 21 leaders from the APEC member economies in 2017.

In addition, the exhibition will introduce the portraits of President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Following Hanoi, the exhibition will also be held in Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Tourism programme promotes heritage sites in Viet Bac region

A ceremony was held at Ba Be Lake in the mountainous northern province of Bac Kan on November 18, to open the ninth tourism programme entitled ‘Through Viet Bac Heritage Sites’ and Ba Be – Bac Kan tourism week.

The annual programme aims to introduce the land, people, culture and tourism potential of six provinces in Viet Bac region, including Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son and Thai Nguyen.

The main activities during the programme and the Ba Be – Bac Kan tourism week include: cultural and arts exchange performances, a folk arts festival, a show of traditional costumes from the ethnic minority groups in the six provinces, and a photo exhibition on the tourist sites and people of Viet Bac localities. They will be held in Bo Lu village, Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district.
