President of Moroccan House of Representatives pays visit to Vietnam
President of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki is paying an official visit to Vietnam from December 16-22, at the invitation of National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
The visit presents opportunities for the two sides to exchange measures that will forge the bilateral parliamentary partnership, and compare their views on regional and international issues of common interest.
14th NA Standing Committee holds its 19th session

The 19th session of the 14th National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) took place from December 11-14.
The NASC reviewed the outcomes of the fourth sitting of the 14th NA and gave their initial comments on the preparations for the next meeting.
During its 19th session, the NASC reviewed the implementation of external activities and international cooperation in 2017, passed the committee’s external affair programme for 2018 and commented on the external activities and international cooperation of a number of bodies under the jurisdiction of the NA.
Vietnam Business Forum convenes year-end session
The 2017 year-end session of the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) opened in Hanoi, on December 12.
The event, an annual dialogue between the Government and the business community, was co-organised by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and VBF Consortium.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Phan Kieu Thu was elected as the 7th Secretary General of the Colombo Plan.
The Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic and Social Development in Asia and the Pacific was initiated by the UK at the Commonwealth Conference on Foreign Affairs in Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in January 1950 and was launched on July 1, 1951, as a cooperative venture for the economic and social advancement of the people of South and Southeast Asia.
Since becoming an official member of the organisation in 2003, Vietnam has sent nearly 400 officials to attend training courses under the Colombo Plan’s cooperation programmes, in the fields of drug prevention, public administration, reproductive health, and environmental protection.
National TV Festival concludes in Thanh Hoa province
A total of 27 top prizes were presented to outstanding TV programmes at the 37th National Television Festival.
Nearly 500 TV shows by 140 TV and radio units in nine different categories, including documentaries, reports, talk shows, science education and ethnic minority TV shows, competed for the best work awards.
As a result, 27 gold and 50 silver prizes were awarded to the outstanding works.
Vietnam takes third place at inaugural Asian Petanque tourney

Vietnam finished third in the first Asian Boules Sport Confederation Petanque Championship in Thailand, bringing home two silvers and one bronze medal.
Thailand topped the overall medals table with three golds, two silvers, and one bronze, with Cambodia coming second with three gold and two bronze medals.
Quang Binh: 58 more caves discovered in Phong Nha - Ke Bang
As many as 58 new caves have been discovered in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang cave system in the central province of Quang Binh.
Using the initial recognition method, before comparing the cave data that the BCRA experts have identified and then eliminating duplicate caves, the final list of 58 new caves has been compiled and published for the first time.
National Tourism Year 2017 closes

The National Tourism Year 2017 themed Lao Cao and North-western provinces officially closed in Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province.
Under the theme of “Colours of the Northwest,” the event ended with impressive developments, bringing a new image and appearance for tourism of Lao Cai and the Northwest provinces.
