Vietnam Peacekeeping Department makes debut

The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (VPD), which was upgraded from the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre (VPC) under the Ministry of National Defence, has officially made its debut.

The upgrade reflects the unit’s important responsibility in contributing to concretising Vietnam’s extensive international integration policy, especially in the field of defence.

Euro 5-standard diesel, Euro 4 RON 95 petrol hit market

The diesel oil with Euro 5 standard and Euro 4-standard RON95 petrol have been officially sold nationwide from January 1.

These products are distributed by the company’s network together with other non-lead petrol products, such as Euro 3 RON95 petrol and Euro 2 diesel.

Currently, RON95 petrol with Euro 3 and Euro 4 standards are sold at VND20,090 (US$0.88) and VND20,290 (US$0.89) per litre, respectively.

Vietnam Railway Corporation launches new high-quality trains to serve passengers

Six new third-generations trains will be put into operation along the Thong Nhat railway route.

The Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) has recently put six new third-generation trains into operation along the Thong Nhat railway route.

This is a system of new-generation carriages made of top-line materials and equipped with the essential comforts needed for north-south journeys.

Each train consists of 15 carriages, including the locomotive, with the pilot train SE4 featuring four high-end soft-seat carriages featuring 56 seats each.

The bed compartments are equipped with a luxury interior, offering a reading light with a USB charger for each passenger.

The VNR also pilots the offering of free airline meals on these new trains.

Fugitive tycoon Phan Van Anh Vu arrested

Phan Van Anh Vu, a property tycoon who is wanted on the charges of deliberately disclosing state secrets, has been arrested.

The tycoon, nicknamed Vu “aluminium”, was reported to have violated Singapore’s immigration laws while on the run and was consequently deported.

Vu was received and arrested by the Vietnamese police at Noi Bai International Airport on January 4.

Nhan Dan reporters win top prize at national press contest on anti-corruption

A group of reporters from Nhan Dan newspaper have won the A prize for their joint press work entitled “Cuoc dai phau nhung ‘khoi u’ nghin ty” (The great surgery for trillions of Vietnamese dong "tumours"...) which is the highest prize at the National Press Contest on the fight against and prevention of corruption and wastefulness.

The group included Thu Ha, Quang Hung, Hoang Anh, Ngoc Long, Ngo Quang Dung, Dang Giang and Thanh Phong.

The Organising Board also presented seven B prizes, ten C prizes and 12 consolation prizes for the best press works in the printing, online, television and radio broadcast categories.

E De ethnic minority beauty crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017

H’Hen Nie from E De ethnic minority group was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 on the final night of the pageant which concluded in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province.

She also won the title of sea pageant beauty.

She received a crown valued at worth VND2.7 billion (US$118.530) and many other valuable gifts and cash as well as is scheduled to represent Vietnam at this year’s Miss Universe.

The titles of first and second runner-up went to Hoang Thi Thuy and Mau Thi Thanh Thuy, respectively.

Thanh Trung, Kieu Trinh win Vietnamese Golden Ball 2017

The 29 year-old player Dinh Thanh Trung Trung received the highest score of 498 points during the nomination to claim the Best Male Player of the Golden Ball Awards for the firs time. Meanwhile, the first and second runners-up titles went to Nguyen Anh Duc (Becamex Binh Duong) and Nguyen Quang Hai (Hanoi FC).

In the female category, goalkeeper Kieu Trinh won Best Female Player for the third time after helping her Ho Chi Minh City women's team to claim the third successive national women's football championship, as well as helping the national women's football team to bring home the gold from the 2017 SEA Games.

The Silver Ball for a female player went to the first runner-up Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung (Ha Nam team), while the Bronze Ball belonged to Huynh Nhu (HCM City team).

Hanoi, Da Nang among world’s top destinations in 2018

The online marketplace and hospitality service Airbnb announced a list of the world’s top 10 destinations for the year 2018, in which Da Nang ranked fifth, while Hanoi was ninth.
