Vietnam, Ethiopia bring relations to new height

President Tran Dai Quang and his Spouse made a State-level visit to Ethiopia from August 23-25 at the invitation of President Mulatu Teshome. On the occasion, the two sides issued a joint statement.

During the visit, President Quang on August 23 held talks with President Mulatu Teshome who later hosted a state banquet in honor of the guest. President Quang also had separate meetings with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Speaker of the House of Federation Keria Ibrahim, and visited the headquarters of the African Union (AU) and met with AU Acting President Amira Elfadil Mohammed Elfadil.

President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse arrived in Luxor city on August 25 afternoon (local time), beginning his State visit to Egypt from August 25-29 at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

This is the first visit to Egypt by a head of the State of Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1963.

40 most valuable brands of Vietnam honoured

Forbes Vietnam held a ceremony on August 23 to honour the 40 most valuable brands in Vietnam in 2018. The total value of those companies is estimated at nearly US$8.1 billion, an increase of about 50% compared to the 2017 list. The surge is attributed to the robust growth of Vietnam’s stock market, which drives up the average price-earnings ratio in most sectors.

Dairy giant Vinamilk maintains its top position in the list, with an estimated brand value of US$2.28 billion, much higher than the US$1.7 billion last year. The company is followed by military-run telecom firm Viettel with US$1.39 billion.

The second and third prizes went to a French art troupe and a Thailand art troupe, respectively. The 8th World Puppet Carnival took place from August 12 to 18.

Vietnamese team triumphs at 2018 ABU Robocon contest

Lac Hong University’s LH – Galaxy team representing Vietnam at the 2018 ABU Asia – Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) beat China team to win the competition for the seventh time.

The contest took place on August 26 in the northern province of Ninh Binh. This year featured 19 teams from 18 countries including two from Vietnam.

Cong Phuong comes off the bench to rescue Vietnam U23’s Asiad title hopes

Favourite striker Nguyen Cong Phuong came off the bench to score a decisive goal that helped Vietnam U23 to overcome Bahrain 1-0 in the Round of 16 on the evening of August 23 and storm into the Asian Games quarterfinals for the first time.

Next up for Vietnam U23 will be an August 27 quarterfinal clash with Syria, who edged out Palestine 1-0 in another Round of 16 match earlier.

Three Vietnamese teams make it to WhiteHat Grand Prix final

Three Vietnamese teams have hacked their way into the final ten of the global-scale cyber security competition, Whitehat Grand Prix 2018, after surviving the 24-hour online qualification round on August 18 and 19 in Hanoi.

The three teams will compete against the remaining seven finalists from the Republic of Korea, Ukraine, the US, Russia, France, and Poland for the final round in Hanoi in mid-October. This will be an offline 8-hour straight race covering the challenge of overcoming hardware security breaches.
