Vietnam attends special meeting of ASEAN chief justices council

NDO/VNA – The special meeting of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) took place in Manila, the Philippines, on October 27.

Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh attended the event at the invitation of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno.

President of the CACJ and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Brunei Haji Kifli highlighted the increasing role of the CACJ to ASEAN connectivity and held that it is necessary to boost cooperation between courts of the ASEAN member countries to develop the ASEAN Community.

Participants discussed the outcomes of the first session of the Forum of Entities Associated with ASEAN held by the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 4.

Chief Justice of the ASEAN countries discussed a number of important issues such as building the chapter and refining the institution of CACJ as an entity of ASEAN connectivity in addition to establishing cooperative relations between court portals of the ASEAN countries and ASEAN legal information portals to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation in judicial training and education.

They also ratified and adopted an action plan of ASEAN working groups in the coming time.

Delegates agreed to host the sixth conference of the CACJ in the Philippines on July 2018.

Founded in 1967, ASEAN groups are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
